Finally someone describing what I tend to feel, both in the van and on the 5th wheel. Even though I am moving forward, I feel as if the world is passing by — and I am the one standing still.
It’s a deeply peaceful sensation. Later in the original clip he compares that sensation to feeling at home. It makes all the sense in the world to me. Apparently also to Arne and Hanneke who refer to “home” when describing their van adventure.
And will love to share it with anyone open to experiencing it too. Because it is a very liberating feeling that is so different from what we all have come used to: the “normal” state of consciousness … an almost continuous sense of un-ease, as Tolle describes it.
You can’t believe: he even used the analogy of … a wheel. How more fitting could the metaphor of the (5th) wheel have been..?!
The words that had come up with me most recently had been that “I did not have to go somewhere (else)” because “I was already somewhere (~here)”
An interesting question then is of course what it is that helps to induce this state of awareness in the wagon. I believe the following helps:
- The van has a fridge and a little kitchen, implying we do not have to look for a restaurant or even grocery store when we want to eat.
- It has a little table: we can work on my iPad/laptop when we feel like it; do not have to go to a coffee shop or any other place to do that.
- It has a mattress (even two) so whenever one feels like napping or sleeping, we do not have to search for a hotel.
- There is of course the surroundings / landscapes in which all of this is happening
- And on top of this, the van itself is warm, cozy and safe protection bubble if you want. One could even compare it to the mother womb. What feels more home than that..?
The implication is that wherever we go, we are feeling fine, no need to go anywhere else. And that by itself makes it even more special of course when we are still moving, as if we’re gliding through the scenery that is surrounding us. One implication being that even familiar regions / landscapes may now feel very different. Yes, also the ones much closer to home — home in this case referring to geographical location. :)
